What is the nicest thing you’ve ever done that no one knows about?

I don’t know if it was the nicest thing I ever did, it didn’t take any effort on my part, but we got a $50 gift certificat to Walmart (where we don’t shop) as a thank you gift, two years in a row now.  The first year I handed it over to the homeless shelter.  This year I just gave it to a woman who is a recovering addict and is on the verge of homelessness, living with friends, without her child and currently changing oil in a Jiffy Lube place.  I thought she could make good use of it.

What’s your nickname? Who gave it to you and why?

My nickname is “SP.” Pronounced “Esspee.”  This may go a long way toward explaining my Xanga name.  My initials were SP before I got married, and I kept them for some unknown reason.  Does it really matter what initials you use?  Nobody has questioned me on it yet.  My college roommates first called me “SP” when my dad registered my brand while I was in college.  It stuck for a while, but nobody calls me that now.

What’s one memory from your college experience that you will always cherish?

Oh, that would be drunk bowling with Scott and Amy.  That and building snow men one night.  I also fondly remember my 21st birthday.  So that was three.

If you had to get a tattoo, what would it be of? Why?

I don’t plan to get a tattoo, and I can’t imagine what circumstances would require my having to do so, but I would have to say I secretly want a tattoo of my brand, (my initials intertwined). It would have to be on my left butt cheek because according to the state I may use my brand on the left shoulder, rib and hip of the animal, and I couldn’t possibly put it where Grandma would see it.  My husband managed to accidentally brand his left tricep, but I guess that would be another featured question…”If you had to get a brand…”

What would you do if you were faced with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy?

Ahem.  That would be Jane and Paul.  They were unplanned, not unwanted.

How would you confront a friend with an eating disorder?

My cleaning lady has a Master’s and also councils kids.  She suggested that one of her young clients would be a great nanny for my children. Marcie has all kinds of stuff going on in her family, so I don’t have any idea why she is seeing a counselor, but she is great with my kids.  Marcie works Tuesday evenings, and I feed her supper.  I had managed to serve a string of lousy meals on Tuesdays and I noticed she wasn’t an enthusiastic eater, but I couldn’t fault her.  One week I made an excellent barbecue beef sandwich and I was dismayed to see that she had taken a nibble and then pushed her beans around on her plate.  I thought about it for a few days, then called her counselor and my cleaning lady.  The counselor said she had had some concerns about Marcie and was glad to have another opinion on the matter.  We left it at that, but I have noticed she eats more when she is here.  Having a healthy body image and a healthy relationship with food is very important.

What is your favorite movie quote?

This is more of a paraphrase, “We’re 105 miles from Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, a half a pack of cigarettes it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.  Hit it!”  Blues Brothers
